Northern Log Homes is proud to be part of the Log Home Council's Grading Program. Our promise to you begins
with the careful selection of the finest Eastern White Pine timber which is kiln-dried, graded and precision milled.
Each log is then cut, pre-drilled and numbered specifically for your home.

Our meticulous attention to detail ensures that construction will proceed quickly and flawlessly. From your
choice of Andersen or Pella windows to our seven part roof system, your home will embody
the unsurpassed quality exemplified by a Northern Log Home.

A. Windows - Andersen® High Performance Insulating Glass:

1. Terratone vinyl-clad tilt double-hung with Low-E glass; grilles are optional.
2. Terratone vinyl-clad casement with Low-E glass; grilles are optional.
3. Window Jambs - 2 x 4 SPF.
4. Interior & exterior window trim.

B. Log Siding Walls & Gables:

1. Frame - 2x6 SPF with headers, blocking and fillers per plan, excluding garages.
2. Sheathing - 1/2" CDX for living quarters and 7/ 16" O.S.B. for garages, etc. Felt paper provided.
3. Exterior Covering - 2x8 Pine milled log siding.

C. Porch Systems:

1. Floor Joists - 2x6, 2x8 or 2x10 Treated Lumber.
2. Floor Joist Headers - (2) 2x6, (2) 2x8 or (2) 2x10 Treated Lumber.
3. Deck Flooring - 2x6 Treated Lumber with 1/4" spacing.
4. Deck Railing - Treated Lumber Rail System.
5. Porch Support Posts - 6x8 Spruce.
6. Porch Plate - Solid Log.
7. Roof Frame - 6x8 Spruce purlins, 4x8 Spruce rafters cut on site or conventional rafters.
8. Roof Decks - Random length tongue-and-groove v- match Pine and 7/16" OSB over 6x8 Spruce purlins or 4x8 Spruce rafters. 5/8" CDX Plywood or 1/2" CDX Plywood over conventional rafters.
9. Shingles - IKO ® Aristocrat 25 (3 tab with 25-year manufacturers warranty).

D. Doors:

1. Exterior Doors - 1 3/4" thick fiberglass, pre-hung with hardware Low E Glass (2 panel, 1 lite).
2. Sliding Patio Door - with screens and hardware (where applicable).
3. Swinging Patio Door - with screens and hardware (where applicable).
4. French Patio Door - with hardware (where applicable).
5. Interior Doors - Pre-hung 6 Panel Pine with hardware.
6. Bi-Fold Doors - Panel over panel knock-down with hardware.
7. Ext. Door Jambs - 2x4 SPF.
8. Interior & exterior door trim.

E. Log Walls & Log Gables

F. Interior Partition Systems:

1. Frame - 2x4 SPF for studs, shoes, plates and blocking (2 rows). 2x6 SPF is utilized for plumbing and support partitions.
2. Panel/Wall Covering - 1" Random length tongue-and-groove v-match Pine on both sides of partition framing. (Splicing may be necessary).
3. Baseboard trim.

1. Ceiling Frame - 2x6, 2x8 or 2x10 SPF or 4x8 Spruce exposed beam frame.
2. Ceiling Panel - 1" random length tongue-and-groove v-match pine.

I. Loft System:

1. Loft Frame - 4x8 Spruce exposed beam joists (4x8 Spruce filler blocks above partitions).
2. Ledger Board - Girder built on site, as required.
3. 4x8 or 6x8 Joist Hangers where applicable.
4. Loft Floors - 2" random length tongue-and-groove v- match Spruce.

J. Truss & Purlin Exposed Beam Roof Systems:

1. Trusses - 6x8 Spruce milled top and bottom chords. 6x6 Spruce milled web members with 1/8" steel gusset plates and 5/8" machine bolts and nuts.
2. Arms - 6x8 Spruce milled top chord with 6x6 Spruce milled support post with 1/8" steel gusset plate and 5/8" machine bolts and nuts. 3/8" carriage bolts provided for arm connection.
3. Purlins - 6x8 Spruce milled and pre-cut to plan.
4. First Roof Boards - 1" random length tongue-and-groove v-match Pine.
5. Felt Paper - Two layers of 15# asphalt, one over pine boards and one under shingles.
6. Strapping - 2x3 16" on center.
7. Second Roof Deck - 1/2" CDX Plywood. NOTE: Rafters to be supplied for dormers and shed roof porches as required.
8. Shingles - IKO ® Aristocrat 25 (3 tab with 25-year manufacturer’s warranty).

K. 1st Floor Framing System:

1. Sills - 2x6 or 2x8 Treated Lumber.
2. Sill Seal
3. Construction Adhesive
4. Floor Joists - 2x8, 2x10 or 2x12 SPF.
5. Floor Joist Headers - (2) 2x8, (2) 2x10 or (2) 2x12 SPF.
6. Floor Joist Filler Blocking - 2x8, 2x10 or 2x12 SPF. Multiples as required.
7. Floor Joist Bridging - 2x8, 2x10, or 2x12 SPF single row.
8. Felt paper, log siding and solid log corners to cover box header and sills.
9. Girders (4) 2x8, (4) 2x10 or (4) 2x12 SFP built up on site.
10. Sub-Floor Sheathing - 4x8x3/4".

L. Stair System:

1. Stringers - (3) 2x12 SPF cut on site.
2. Treads - 2x10 SPF (for basement application). 3/4" x10-1/2" oak (for loft application).
3. Hand Railings - Pine Rail System.

Miscellaneous:

1. Pre-cut splines for log butt joints.
2. Interior railing - Pine Rail System (where applicable).
3. Blueprints - 3 sets.
4. Construction Manual - 1 complete.

Log Sealing System:

1. Logs are milled with a wide tongue and groove:

• Slow curing caulking compound designed to produce a soft, mobile seal is applied to the caulk shelf on each tongue.
• Two rows of 1/2" x 1/2" foam gasket are also applied to each log tongue.
• Logs are securely bolted together with 3/8" x 12" lag screws placed 2’ on center into pre-drilled and counter bored holes.

2. In the space between the tongue and groove of each log:

• The foam gasket is compressed to a height of 1/8".
• The caulking compound forms two-point adhesion at the caulk shelf.

3. The foam tape and caulk can flex to maintain the air seal should log movement occur.

7-Part Roof Systems:

1. Shingles - IKO ® Aristocrat 25 (3-tab with 25-year manufacturer’s warranty).
2. Roof Sheathing - 1/2" CDX Plywood.
3. Roof Strapping - 2x3 16" on center.
4. Felt Paper - Two layers of 15# asphalt, one over pine boards and one under shingles.
5. Roof Boards - 1" random length tongue-and- groove v-match Pine.
6. Roof Purlins - Spruce pre-cut to plan and pre-cut to fit at gables.
7. Foam Insulation (Optional).
